Sophia Schuhmann and Jonas Ruehaak visited the volunteers of Venerable Bede Church Food Bank in Newcastle to speak with them about food and life.

"A lady came to the Food Bank, her husband had died in Afghanistan and she had two children. She was not a British citizen so she had no access to benefits and no support. So she came to us so we could help her. Just to listen to her was already helpful. She was very grateful for the food."

"I want to do something useful, I want to help people. It’s better than going out the house with my mates.

People are very grateful. I’ve seen people crying because it is like a last resort for them. They’re crying because they don’t really want to come here, they feel embarrassed about it.

It’s nice to help people and see how much it changes them. I’ve heard back from them and you know they’re in a much better place now. "

"People are really thankful. You notice the way they talk to you.

I don’t really do much, it’s the people who donate their food."

"I feel just horrible that people or children are hungry."
